Obituary: Richard Weeks

A funeral service for Richard Allen Weeks, 86, of Walcott, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 (today), in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 5-7 p.m. at the mortuary.

Mr. Weeks died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at his home.

Richard Weeks was born Nov. 20, 1933, in Albion, Ind., the son of Ernest and Olga (Black) Weeks. He graduated from Albion High School in 1952.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was sent to Okinawa, Japan, during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1960.

He married Joan Leslie on June 2, 1956.

He retired as an engineer at Sears Manufacturing and spent 10 years in his “retirement job” as a security officer at Genesis Medical Center.

He was one of the first local Korean War veterans to go on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Survivors include his wife; his daughters, Colleen (David) Hentze, Davenport, Melody (Richard) McHugh, Moline, Joy Weeks, Advance, Ind., and Pam Weeks, Trinidad, Colo.; his sons, Randy (Monica) Weeks, Pleasant Valley, and Jason (Melissa) Weeks, Bettendorf; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Amy Moenck and Joann Weeks; his sisters, Dorothy Rickle, Mary Leffel, and Emma Jean Kostielney; and his brothers, Kenneth, George, John and Don Weeks.
