Obituary: Richard Owen

A funeral service for Richard C. Owen, 90, of DeWitt, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8 (today), in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Owen died Friday, May 3, 2019, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.

Richard Owen was born May 30, 1928, in Chariton, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Marguerite (Wright) Owen. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1946.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Phyllis Hueckstedt Erickson on Sept. 22, 1962, in Davenport. She died Nov. 15, 2002. He later married Ruth (Flogel) Roling on Dec. 11, 2004, in DeWitt.

He worked as a lineman for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Elks Lodge #298.

His hobbies were bowling, attending get-togethers, playing horseshoes and cards, going to the casino, and watching television and sports.

Survivors include his wife Ruth; his children, Judy Erickson (Karl Eby), Dallas Center, Iowa, Randy (Tina) Roling, Miles, Iowa, Greg (Rhonda) Roling, Michael (Kimberly) Roling, and Patrick (Leslie) Roling, all of DeWitt, Barbara Schroeder (Mel Menke), Kenosha, Wis., and Cheryl Oake (Lenny Beck), Clinton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Phyllis, he was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
