Obituary: Raymond Shubat

A funeral service for Raymond C. “Ray” Shubat, 77, of Davenport, was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation was from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the mortuary.

Mr. Shubat died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Raymond Shubat was born March 28, 1941, in Centerville, the son of Joseph and Helena (Azzaline) Shubat.

He married Susan Bruning on May 20, 1961, in Davenport.

He retired from Alcoa as a foil mill operator after 36 years of service.

He coached Dad’s Club softball and was a Cub Scouts den leader.

His hobbies were working on cars, fishing, spending time at the cottage on Crystal Lake, working with stained glass, and etching pictures.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Julie (Jeff) Adair; a son, Shawn Shubat; his grandchildren, Ryan (Natalie) Adair and Cory Adair (Molly Zogg); and a sister, Debbie (David) Shropshire.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melissa Adair; a sister, Sandy Detlafs; and his brothers, Frank and Richard Shubat.

Memorials may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
