A funeral service for Merle David Pingel, 94, of New Liberty, was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Visitation was Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery, Wheatland.
Mr. Pingel died Friday, April 20, 2018, at Prairie Hills of Tipton.
Merle Pingel was born Jan. 23, 1924, in Scott County, the son of Walter and Hulda (Petersen) Pingel.
He married Erma Schlapkohl on March 16, 1958, in Davenport. She died Oct. 5, 2011.
He farmed in Scott County his entire life.
He served on various boards.
His hobbies were playing cards, bowling, raising cattle, and John Deere tractors.
Survivors include a daughter, Andrea Godke, Davenport; his sons, Douglas Pingel, Walcott, and Gary (Jolene) Pingel, New Liberty; seven granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachel Levien, and two brothers, Luverne and Harlan Pingel.
