Obituary: Melvin Rohwedder

A private family funeral service will be held for Melvin M. Rohwedder, 90, of New Liberty. Interment will be in the Durant Cemetery at a later date. The Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Rohwedder died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Melvin Rohwedder was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Davenport, the son of John and Christina (Lamaack) Rohwedder.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Eleanor Schaeffer on Feb. 14, 1953, in Davenport.

He farmed near Stockton and retired from Oscar Meyer, Davenport, in 1992 after 25 years of service.

He was a member of the Durant American Legion Post #430.

His hobbies were watching baseball, working outside and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Sherri (Scott) Mohr, Apache Junction, Ariz., Kurt Rohwedder, Muscatine, and Todd Rohwedder, New Liberty; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Shepard, Silvis, Ill.

He was preceded in death by twin daughters, Karen and Sharon; and a brother, Norman.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
