Obituary: Maurice Tinnes

A funeral service for Maurice Nicholas Tinnes, 97, of Davenport, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 21, at Faith United Church of Christ, Davenport. Interment was in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, May 20, from 1-3 p.m. at the Cunnick-Collins Funeral Home, Davenport.

Mr. Tinnes died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

Maurice Tinnes was born March 20, 1921, in Dublin, Iowa, the son of Zeno and Grace (Tracey) Tinnes.

He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He married Marjorie Ahrens on Sept. 28, 1943, in Washington, Iowa. She died in 2014.

He was a business owner and self-employed building contractor.

He was a member of the American Legion and Faith United Church of Christ.

His hobbies were building furniture and supporting North Scott athletics.

Survivors include his daughters, Marilyn (Donald) Boysen, Rock Island, and Barbara (David) Stipes, Bellevue, Iowa; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Harriet Harley and Ardith Derby, both of Davenport.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roquel Tinnes.
