Obituary: Marilyn Lenig

Marilyn (Nelson) Lenig passed away Sept. 30, 2018. She has requested to be reunited with her husband. A graveside service will be held on Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. in the Rolling Prairie Cemetery in Rolling Prairie, Ind.  Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Hospice Angels Foundation. She was a loyal wife, mother, homemaker, daughter, grandmother and friend. She was a caring, compassionate, retired educator. She loved reading, watching old movies, piano and jazz music, walking, hiking, biking and cross-country skiing. She was happy in a crowd or alone. Above all, she loved being with her children and grandchildren.

She worked for American Security Co. Indianapolis, Ind.; Winfield & Associates, Redfield & Associates, LaSalle & Wacher, in Chicago; Francis I. DuPont & Co. Stockbrokers as operations manager in Gary, Ind; executive secretary to Richard G. Hatcher, Mayor of Gary; and an educator at Holy Family School in Davenport until retirement.

Marilyn was a homemaker raising her three children for almost 20 years. She returned to the workforce teaching Social Studies to her beloved Junior High students at Holy Family School (All Saints) in Davenport.

After retirement, she traveled and spent time with her children and grandchildren. She also volunteered in a reading program and volunteered with World Relief.

Marilyn M. Nelson married James A. Lenig on March 18, 1967. James passed away in September 1994. They were life members of the Methodist Church in La Porte, Ind., and Eldridge.

Survivors include a son Todd (Amy) Lenig; granddaughters: Clara, Anna, Edie and Vivian, all of Ankeny; son, Thane Lenig of Eldridge; daughter Tonia (Augie) Ferguson; grandsons, Gus and John, and a granddaughter, Lauren, all of Cedar Falls.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, Russell Sr. and Mary Nelson; brothers, Peter Nelson and Russell Jr. Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Daniel Lenig and Charles Lenig.
