Obituary: Margaret Wuestenberg

A funeral service of Christian Burial for Margaret Ruth Wuestenberg, 96, of rural Donahue, was held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Park View Lutheran Church. Visitation was from 9-11:15 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial was in Allens Grove Cemetery, rural Donahue. The Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Wuestenberg died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Wheatland Manor.

Margaret Lahann was born Nov. 22, 1921, in rural Clinton County, the daughter of Otto and Marian (Vetter) Lahann. She received a bachelor of education degree from St. Ambrose University in 1974.

She married Irvin “Pete” Wuestenberg on Oct. 29, 1942. He died in 1985.

She began her teaching career at the one-room Virginia School in rural Clinton County. She was later employed by North Scott Schools for 35 years, many of them as the kindergarten teacher at John Glenn Elementary in Donahue, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of the Davenport Association of Retired Teachers, and belonged to many local card clubs in Scott and Clinton counties.

Survivors include her children, Jerry (Teri) Wuestenberg, Dixon, and Mary Lou Engler, Eldridge; her grandchildren, DJ (Janet) Strader and Amy (Randy) Nelson; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Sherwood (Delores) Lahann, Wheatland; and a sister-in-law, Arlene (Cliff) Lahann, Clinton.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Cliff and Kenny Lahann.
