Obituary: Linda McClurg

It is with great sadness that the family of Linda S. (Gibson) McClurg announce her passing after a long and hard-fought illness from the complications of cancer treatment. She passed peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 16, surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 71. 

Linda will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband of 46 years, Jim, her son Jared (Megan), daughter Jillian, her grandchildren Rowyn and Wyatt, and brothers John and Dan (Rinda). Linda was preceded in death by her brother Lyle, her parents John and Flora Gibson, and her grandson Norman James.

Linda grew up in southwest Iowa and graduated from Northwest Missouri State. She dedicated her life to public education beginning her career as a high school language arts teacher at North Scott High School in Eldridge. She went on to receive her master’s degree in secondary education and accepted a position as associate principal at North High School in Davenport. She later became the principal at North Scott High School in Eldridge.

In 1997, Jim was transferred to Indianapolis, Ind,, where Linda continued her career in education with the Indianapolis Public Schools Human Resources Department. Jim and Linda eventually returned home to the Iowa Quad Cities, where Linda worked as an HR director for the Davenport Public School system.

Linda deeply loved her family and countless friends. She loved playing board games and card games, especially Mahjong and Bridge. She enjoyed water aerobics and was an active golfer and member of the Duck Creek Ladies League. Above all, Linda had a passion for life and loved traveling with her husband and friends, most recently enjoying a trip to France and Great Britain. She enjoyed good food and cooking and was a long-time member of a club known as The Gourmet Group.

The family greeted friends on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Clark Legacy Center in Nicholasville, Ky. Interment was Friday, Sept. 21 at the Union Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.

The family plans on a celebration of life and greeting of friends at a future date to be announced at a Quad Cities, Iowa,­ location to be determined.
