Obituary: Leon Dietz

A funeral service for Leon L. Dietz, 83, of Durant, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at the Wilton United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Walcott Cemetery, with military honors by the Walcott American Legion. Visitation was Monday, April 2, from 4-7 p.m. at the church. The Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Dietz died Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at his home.

Leon Dietz was born Sept. 19, 1934, in Walcott, the son of Walter and Lillian (Sinksen) Dietz. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1954.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Dorothy Stender on Jan. 19, 1957, in Davenport.

He farmed in Scott County from 1957-1983, and later worked at White Pigeon Insurance from 12 years.

He was a member of the Wilton United Methodist Church and the Walcott American Legion #548.

His hobbies were watching baseball, fishing, and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife; his daughters, Julie Dolter, Davenport, Jill (Kelly) Proctor, Wilton, and Janelle Shaffer (Terry Simoens) of Durant; a son, Rod (Sherri) Dietz, Walcott; eight grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by five sisters.

Memorials may be made to the Durant Ambulance or the Durant Fire Department.
