Obituary: Larry Spillers

A funeral service for Larry Claude Spillers, 89, of Davenport, was held at noon on Monday, Jan. 20, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation was two hours prior to the service on Monday at the mortuary. Burial was in Rock Island National Cemetery.

Mr. Spillers died Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

He graduated from high school in Adel in 1948. He attended The University of Iowa School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1959.

He served in Korea from Jan. 16, 1952, to Dec. 19, 1953.

He married Joyce Campbell on April 10, 1965, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death.

He was co-owner of the Rockingham Drugstore in the west end of Davenport until 1986, and then worked at Hy-Vee.

He was a member of the Blackhawk Hiking Club and the Audubon Society.

His hobbies were traveling, going to the symphony, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family.

Survivors include his daughters, Nancy (Tim) Emmerson and Leslie (Jon) Ronnebeck; his grandchildren, Skylar (Ryan), Jake, Max and Sydney; a great-grandson; a sister, Marguerite Ganoe; and a brother, Harry Spillers (Lee Roden).

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Arlene Galetich and Marilyn Oneal.

Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or the Quad City Audubon Society.
