Obituary: John Karnstedt

A memorial service for John Henry Karnstedt, 79, of Eldridge, will be held at noon on Saturday, June 1, at Eldridge United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Private family burial will be at a later date in Henderson, Minn. The Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Karnstedt died Friday, May 3, 2019, at his home.

John Karnstedt was born March 26, 1940, in Minneapolis, the son of Cal and Jackie Karnstedt.

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Sharon Reinier Richardson on Aug. 15, 1974, in Minnesota. She died in 2008.

He was a salesman for industrial products in earlier years, and later worked as a bus driver for the North Scott Community School District.

He was a member of the Eldridge Lions Club, the Eldridge Planning and Zoning Committee, and Eldridge United Methodist Church.

His hobbies were fishing, sailing, history, aviation, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Kortney (Mark) McDermott, Bettendorf, Jill Yard, Lake George, N.Y., Kimberly (Michael) Booth, Hampton, Iowa, Kurtis (Holly) Richardson, Pella, Iowa, and Kent Richardson, Meeker, Colo.; his grandchildren, Marah and Taylor Booth, Samantha and Colton Richardson, Dylan and Alexis McDermott, and John, Jamie, and Jason Yard; five great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Mary, Mark (Sharon), Paul, and David Karnstedt, all of Minnesota.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings Sue Seyfert, Katherine Starrett, and Deborah, Peter, and James Karnstedt.

Memorials may be made to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation or to the Eldridge Lions Club.
