Obituary: Janell Marshall

A funeral service for SFC Janell Marshall, 51, of Springfield, Ill., was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Per her wishes, cremation rites were accorded, and burial was in Rock Island National Cemetery. A luncheon was held at the Runge Mortuary following burial. Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 27, from 2-5 p.m. at the mortuary.

Ms. Marshall died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019.

She was born Aug. 15, 1967, in Davenport. She graduated from Davenport West High School in 1985.

She served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a supply and transportation specialist for 20 years before retiring. She served in Germany, Desert Storm, Guantanamo Bay, Iraq, and Afghanistan. She had also been to Russia, Holland, Paris, Bahamas, Czechoslovakia, and the Twin Towers after 9/11. She received a Bronze Star and was “Soldier of the Year.”

For the last 16 years, she was the membership and meetings coordinator for the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS).

She was an active member of the Illinois Society of Association Executives, and served as a member co-chair of the special events committee, and recently served as a board member. In 2014, she received the ISDS Rising Star Award.

Survivors include her parents, Janet and Richard Henning Sr., Bettendorf, and Sandra and Lowell Tennyson, Blue Grass; a sister, Julie (Steve) Artiszewski, Savanna, Ill.; and a special person in her life, Scott Miles, Springfield.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Scott, in 1972; and her grandparents, Wilma and John Bruestle and Mildred Wendell.

Memorials may be made to HHV (Help Heal Veterans), the American Cancer Society, or Our Savior Lutheran Church.
