Obituary: Hilda Kummerfeldt

A funeral service for Hilda Olga Kummerfeldt, 95, of Walcott, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant. Interment was in the Durant Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, May 11, from 5-7 p.m. at the church. The Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Kummerfeldt died Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Hilda Soenke was born March 12, 1923, in Scott County, the daughter of George and Olga (Schuett) Soenke. She graduated from Davenport Central High School and attended Teachers’ College in Cedar Falls.

She married Fred Kummerfeldt on Jan. 28, 1945, in Davenport. He died Sept. 16, 2009.

She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Durant, the Walcott Pythian Sisters, Purity Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star in Wilton, and the Durant Garden Club.

Her hobbies were gardening, bird watching, traveling, fishing, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia (Terry) Raper, Henderson, Nev., and Janet (John) Kelso, Emblem, Wyo.; a son, John (Karen) Kummerfeldt, Durant; her grandchildren, Sara (Chad) Martindale, David (Robin) Kummerfeldt, and Jessica Evans; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings.

Memorials may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Durant or to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
