Obituary: Henry Blake

A funeral service for Henry Blake, 91, of Davenport, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 (today), in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation was Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 4-7 p.m. at the mortuary. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the mortuary.

Mr. Blake died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Henry Blake was born April 6, 1927, on the family farm in Scott County, the son of Henry and Adolfina (Badtram) Blake.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He married Virginia Miller on June 22, 1957. She died Dec. 6, 2010.

He was employed by Caterpillar, retiring in 1985 after 30 years of service.

He was a member of the Dixon American Legion Post 353 for over 50 years. He was a longtime coordinator of the antique tractor display at the Mississippi Valley Fair. He was a member of the Oliver-Hart-Parr Collectors Association.

His hobbies were coin collecting, fixing clocks, ballroom dancing with his wife, collecting and restoring Oliver tractors, and gardening.

Survivors include his children, Dianne (Shaun) Dunn, Norman Blake, and Dennis (Mickey) Blake; his grandchildren, Kenneth (Laura) Ashby, Rebecca Ashby (James Simmons), Chelsey Blake, and Lauren Blake; two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Anita (George) Christoff, and Donavan (Carolyn) Blake.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth, and a brother, Chris Blake.
