Obituary: Harriet Shaw

A celebration of life service for Harriet A. Shaw, 92, was held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and inurnment will be private.

Mrs. Shaw died Monday, Oct. 14, 2019.

Harriett Geddes was born Aug. 15, 1927, in Indianola, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Naomi Geddes. She graduated from high school in Joplin, Mo., and later earned an associate’s degree in education from junior college.

She married Ben Shaw on June 3, 1950. He preceded her in death.

Prior to her marriage, she worked in Des Moines and Berkeley, Calif., before taking a teaching job in Camanche. Later, she worked as a clerk for the school board and as town clerk in Princeton. In 1987, she became substitute clerk. She also occasionally filled in for the Postmaster for 30 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan (George) Shaw Pavlakis; a son, Alan (Linda) Shaw; her grandchildren, Sarah Shaw and Gregory Pavlakis; and a sister-in-law, Rose Barlon.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Lois Shaw Havenhill; and her brothers-in-law, Sam Havenhill and Bill Barlon.
