Obituary: Galen Engler

A Mass of Christian Burial for Galen K. “Mike” Engler, 78, of Walcott, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Blue Grass. Private family inurnment was in the Walcott Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, July 9, from 4-7 p.m. at the church, with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. to conclude the visitation. The Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Engler died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Galen Engler was born Nov. 14, 1939, in Maysville, the son of Rudolph and Mary (Ferris) Engler. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1958.

He served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

He married Nancy Lamp on Sept. 23, 1961, in Davenport.

He retired from IH Case in 2000.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Blue Grass, and served on the Walcott Park Board for many years.

His hobbies were woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Dave (Lisa) Engler, Eldridge, Maria (Andy) Green, Walcott, and Carla (Rick) Toenjes, Woodbury, Minn.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Chick (Donald) Holdorf, Eldridge, and Donna (Duane) Harvey, Maysville; and his brothers, Steve (Madonna) Engler, Bettendorf, and David (Marilyn) Engler, Davenport.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, the Walcott Volunteer Firemen’s Association, or St. Andrew Catholic Church.
