Obituary: Fredrick Wells

A funeral service for Fredrick F. “Freddie” Wells, 89, of Blue Grass, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Durant Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 22 (today), from 4-7 p.m. at the church. The Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Wells died Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at his daughter’s home in Dixon.

Fredrick Wells was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Fairbanks, Iowa, the son of Edward and Viola (Brandt) Wells.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Lavonne Meincke on Aug. 7, 1954, in Walcott. She died May 17, 2008.

He was a self-employed farmed and Angus cattleman. After retirement, he worked for Ferris Tree Farm for many years and read meters for REC.

He was a member of Blue Grass Presbyterian Church, the Blue Grass American Legion #711, and the Blue Grass Community Club. He went on a Quad Cities Honor Flight with his son, Kevin.

His hobbies were camping and spending time with his family. 

Survivors include a daughter, Becky (Kenny) Kaufman, Dixon; a son, Kevin (Debbie) Wells, Wilton; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Velma Pasvogel, West Liberty.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lavonne Oveson and Eulalia Nordurft; and his brothers, Willard and Harold Wells.
