A funeral service for Evelyn L. Wachal, 97, of Davenport, was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation was two hours prior to the service on Monday at the mortuary. Burial was in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.
Mrs. Wachal died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, in Davenport.
Evelyn Ruggeberg was born Oct. 7, 1922, in rural Elwood, the daughter of Marvin and Lillian (Farmer) Ruggeberg.
She married Donald Wachal on Dec. 3, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death.
She worked alongside her husband at the Col Ballroom, where she was also a bookkeeper. She was co-owner and bookkeeper of the Filling Station for 48 years.
Her hobbies were ballroom dancing, cooking for friends, and watching NASCAR and sports.
Survivors include her sons, Donald (Sharon) Wachal and Douglas (Lisa) Wachal, all of Davenport; her grandchildren, Tracy (Lou) Naab and Cory (Joanna) Wachal; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis, in 2016; and a sister, Marcella Schmidt.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
