Obituary: Eugene Loussaert

Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Eugene “Gene” Loussaert, 78, a resident of Long Grove, was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove.  Burial was in St. Ann’s Cemetery.  Visitation was from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. There was additional visitation Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at church.  Gene passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, surrounded by his family.

Eugene August Loussaert was born Aug. 24, 1940, in Davenport, a son of August and Margaret (Murphy) Loussaert.  Gene married Judy Banowetz at St. Ann’s on Aug. 27, 1966.

He was a life-long farmer, retiring in 1995. Even after retirement, Gene always found ways of staying busy; he enjoyed tinkering, especially outdoors.  He also enjoyed helping out at the Pride of the Wapsi.

Gene loved time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He was never one to remain silent; he would talk with anyone, usually in his direct manner.  You always knew where you stood with Gene Loussaert.

Memorials may be made to St. Ann’s, where Gene was a lifelong member and part of the building committee when the new church was built.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Judy; children, Dan (Pam) Loussaert, Eldridge, Steve Loussaert, Buckeye, Ariz., Doug (Molly) Loussaert, Iowa City, Cindy Houser, Mt. Holly, N.C.; grandchildren Nate, Erica, Dana, Megan, Steven, Clare, and Patrick; siblings, Mary (Ed) Murrens, Carbon Cliff, Ill., Dale (Terry) Loussaert, Wentzville, Mo., and Janet Kanyock, Madison, Conn.; mother-in-law, Sally Banowetz and the whole Banowetz clan.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rusty Houser, his parents, infant sister, Jeannette Loussaert and father-in-law, Paul Banowetz.  Online remembrances may be expressed by visiting www.hmdfuneralhome.com.
