Obituary: Eugene Black

Private family graveside services for Eugene Franklin Black, 97, of Litchfield, Ill., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Bethel Ridge Cemetery, Atwater, Ill. Memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Plummer Funeral Home, Litchfield.

Mr. Black died Saturday, May 18, 2019, at HSHS St. Francis Hospital.

Eugene Black was born April 27, 1922, in Anutt, Mo., the son of Oliver and Lydia (Stockstill) Black.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and served during World War II.

He worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Litchfield from 1949-1975. He was head of maintenance for the North Scott School District, where he retired in 1984.

He was a lifelong member of Litchfield Moose Lodge #1634, and took part in the 2011 Honor Flight.

His hobbies were gardening, being outside, and repairing lawnmowers.

Survivors include his sons, Gary (Patty) Black, Denny (Nancy) Black, and Jason (Michelle) Black, all of Litchfield; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Pence; and five brothers, William, Clarence “Aubrey,” Clyde, James “Wilson,” and George “Alvin.”
