A celebration of life gathering for Donald Gordon Jones, 71, of Bettendorf, was held at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation was from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the mortuary. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded, and burial will be at a later date in Chester Cemetery in Poweshiek County.
Mr. Jones died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.
Donald Jones was born in New Jersey, the son of Estelle (DeBeauchamp) and Robert Jones II. He graduated from St. Ambrose College in 1976.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.
He married Norma (Harris) Jones on Aug. 2, 1969, in Grinnell.
He managed Big Boy restaurants and later retired from the Rock Island Arsenal, where he served as a quality assurance specialist.
He volunteered at the East Moline Correctional Center and as a volunteer speaker for the Child Abuse Council in Moline, and was a member of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge in Bettendorf.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Derek (Tracy) Jones; his step-grandchildren, Andrew and Ashley Nesseler; and his siblings, April McGuirt of Florida, Robert Jones III of California, and Gene Herrick of Wisconsin.
Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose University or the Child Abuse Council in Moline.
