German occupation of Poland during WWII resulted in her parents’ deaths and her being taken to Auschwitz and later to an Austrian work camp. Survival to the end of WWII found Joan in

a group of displaced persons eventually being sent to the U.S.

Dennis found Joan, the love of his life, in Philadelphia. They married in May 1951 and were blessed in marriage in the Holy Family Church, Davenport. Dennis and Joan made a home in Davenport and eventually in Eldridge. They were loving parents to their son Rory, attending all school functions. Dennis was always ready to catch Rory’s pitches and Joan helped with band and school functions.

Dennis retired in 1985 from Alcoa, where he worked in the box shop. They sold their home in Iowa and traveled around the U.S. eventually ending up in Edinburg. The couple enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, playing bingo and golf.

Joan passed away Nov. 4, 2015, in Edinburg. Dennis passed away Nov. 12, 2018. The couple will be laid to rest and eternally together.
