Obituary: Darrell Machalek

A memorial service for Darrell W. Machalek Sr., 80, of LeClaire, was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation was from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded.

Mr. Machalek died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at his home.

Darrell Machalek was born April 20, 1938, in Davenport, the son of William and Violet (Belha) Machalek. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1956.

He married Jean Klabunde on Jan. 26, 1957, in Davenport.

He was employed at John Deere Harvester, retiring after 30 years of service. He also started J-Mac Lures Company.

He was a member of Heritage Wesleyan Church, and was active in Bible study and home Bible study groups, bass clubs, LeClaire Boy Scouts, fishing tournaments, trap shooting, the LeClaire Levy Commission, and LeClaire and Scott County boys’ baseball.

His hobbies were spending time with his family and traveling with his wife.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Darrell Machalek Jr., Deon (Diana) Machalek, Wendy Auliff, Lori (Brian) Amerine, Connie (Gary) Enoch, and Lisa Slocum; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Tania; and a brother, Sid.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, two sisters, and a brother.

Memorials may be made to Heritage Wesleyan Church, The Gathering, or Unity Point Hospice.
