Obituary: Charles Missel

A funeral service for Charles J. Missel, 81, of Davenport, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation was held Friday, June 29, from 4-7 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Additional visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Mr. Missel died Monday, June 25, 2018.

Charles Missel was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Wheatland, the son of Carl and Margaret (Hughes) Missel. He graduated from St. Ambrose Academy and St. Ambrose University, and later graduated from the Worsham College of Mortuary Science.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 30 years and retired as a Lt. Colonel.

He married Helen Benda on Sept. 10, 1960, in East Pleasant Plain, Iowa.

He worked with Esterdahl Mortuary and Runge Mortuary for many years. He served as Postmaster in Milan, Ill., and retired after 30 years of service.

He was active with and served on the board of Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, and was a member of the Serra Club.

His hobbies were watching sports and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Charles Missel and Erin (Gavin) Brady, all of Missouri, Joe (Maureen) Missel of Nevada, Monica (Corey) Schultz, Davenport, and Dan (Sandy) Missel and Dennis (Josette) Missel, all of California; and his grandchildren, Alexis, Nick, Benjamin, Mallory, Melissa, Roman, Kyle, Lauren, Rebekah, Nate, Miranda, Raegan, Charlie, Finley, and Patrick.

Memorials may be made to Assumption High School or Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
