Obituary: Carrol Sliwa

Carrol L. Sliwa, 73, of Blue Grass, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carrol Schultz was born April 14, 1945, in Chicago, the daughter of Alfred and Agnes (Franzen) Schultz. She graduated from Steinmatz High School in 1963. In 1966, she earned a nursing degree from Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital, and in 1988 a bachelor of science from St. Francis in Joliet.

She married Wayne Sliwa in 1967 in Chicago.

Since 1966, she worked as a nurse for many places before working at the Rock Island County Health Department – Family Planning for 20 years, retiring in 2009.

After her retirement, she volunteered at the Quad City Animal Welfare Center. She also belonged to many women’s organizations.

Survivors include her husband; her children, Peter Sliwa, Minooka, Ill., David (Heather) Sliwa, Draper, Utah, and Piper (Jason) Gucfa, Urbandale; her grandchildren, Kierstin, Kendra, Kassidy, Aidan, Grace, Devon, and Brooklyn; and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria Lynn, and a brother, Ron.

Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
