Obituary: Bruce Headlee

A graveside service for Bruce James Headlee, 91, of Davenport, was held at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Rock Island National Cemetery. The Runge Mortuary, Davenport, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Headlee died Monday, Oct. 1, 2018.

Bruce was born Dec. 22, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Paul and Constance (Wagley) Headlee.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force.

He married Elisabeth Ensminger on Aug. 28, 1949, in Washington, D.C. She died Jan. 16, 2016.

He taught in the Davenport School District for 34 years, retiring in 1988.

His hobbies were woodworking, building furniture, crafting musical instruments, composing music, spending time with his family, crossword puzzles, and making wine.

Survivors include his children, Anne (Charles) Olson, Rockford, Ill., Nancy Headlee (Bob Pasternak), Boulder, Colo., Paul (Anne) Headlee, Davenport, and Robert (Julie) Headlee, Elizabeth, Ill.; his grandchildren, Erik (Stephanie) Olson, Rachel Headlee, Zachary Headlee, Michael (Pam) Headlee, and Ben Headlee (Solimar Perez); nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Headlee, Cincinnati, Ohio; and a brother-in-law, Earl Ensminger, Palmyra, Mo.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebekah Biles.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
