Melvin Rohwedder to mark 90th birthday with family

Melvin Rohwedder of New Liberty, formerly of Stockton, will celebrate his 90th birthday on Aug. 10 with a family gathering in Durant and a dinner in Walcott.

He was born Aug. 7, 1929, at Mercy Hospital in Davenport. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Eleanor Schaeffer on Feb. 14, 1953, in Davenport. They farmed near Stockton and retired in 1992. Melvin was also employed by Oscar Mayer and retired in 1992 after 25 years.

He is a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and is a member of the Durant American Legion. He enjoys working outside and spending time with his family.

His children are Sherri (Scott) Mohr of Stockton, Kurt Rohwedder of Davenport, and Todd Rohwedder of New Liberty. Twin daughters, Karen and Sharon, are deceased.

His grandchildren are Justine Mohr, Meghan (Nick) Hall, Kristyn (Xavier) Robledo, and Jacob Mohr. He has 10 great-grandchildren.
