Marilyn Dengler to note 90th birthday with open house Oct. 21

Marilyn Dengler will celebrate her 90th birthday at the Durant Community Center with an open house celebration on Sunday, Oct. 21, from 1-5 p.m.  All of her many family, friends and former students are invited to attend. Come ready to share your stories and laughter and participate in the memories we all share in common.  No gifts, please; but cards are appreciated.

Marilyn Joyce Dengler was born Oct. 18, 1928, to Emil and Norma (Martens) Fahrenkrog.  She married Warren Dengler May 31, 1947.  Warren and her eldest son Rick are deceased.  Marilyn’s children are Raymond and Mary Dengler, Springville, Iowa, Ronald and Mary Lou Dengler, Bettendorf, Polly and Randy Geurink, Muscatine, and Peggy Slattery, Waverly.   She has 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Marilyn graduated from Davenport High School with a rural teaching degree in 1946 and subsequently spent many years teaching in one-room schoolhouses throughout Scott County.  She graduated from Marycrest College with an elementary education teaching degree in 1974. She taught for the Davenport School System in Buffalo and then Blue Grass until her retirement in 1990.
