A Scott County jury today found 13-year-old Luke Andrews guilty of three counts, including assault, carrying a gun on school property, and a lesser charge of assault with intent to commit serious injury.

Jurors acquitted Andrews of the most serious charge, attempted murder, after hearing testimony and attorney arguments over six days.

He is scheduled for a bond reduction hearing Thursday morning. Andrews has been held by Scott County juvenile authorities since his arrest the day of the incident, Aug. 31.

Jurors began deliberations Tuesday, then asked for help Wednesday morning. A note to the judge asked how to encourage one juror to keep an open mind.

The judge told the jury to reread the instructions.

Just after 2 p.m., the jury returned its verdict.

Andrews' mother, Lindsay Andrews was waiting in the courtroom for the verdict, which came so quickly her husband and Andrews’ grandparents could not make it in time.

She embraced her son’s attorneys afterward.

“We are shocked and happy for our child,” she told The NSP.
