Obituary: Richard Unwin

Funeral services for Richard “Dick” V. Unwin, 95, of LeClaire, were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 8 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial was in the Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire.

Mr. Unwin died Monday, March 4, 2013, at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility, Bettendorf.

Richard Unwin was born Sept. 24, 1917, in Nevada, Iowa, the son of William and Edna (Pierce) Unwin. He married Verna Rylander on May 24, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She died April 17, 2009.

Mr. Unwin served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked in the maintenance department for Alcoa for 33 years.

Mr. Unwin was a member of the Buffalo Bill American Legion Post 347 in LeClaire, Buffalo Bill Museum and the LeClaire Civic Club. His hobbies were fishing, woodworking, traveling, and reading.

Memorials may be made to the Iowa Masonic Health Facility Activity Fund or the LeClaire Civic Club.

Survivors include daughters, Sue (Kenneth) Asay, and Marcia (Chelle) Unwin, Bettendorf, and Betty (Daniel) Brieser, LeClaire; sons, Jerry (Judy), and Tom, all of LeClaire; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Miller, Bettendorf.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice, and a grandson, Scott.
