Funeral services and Catholic Mass for Maria Mercedes “Mercy” Aguilera, 76, of Davenport, were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial was in the Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The Runge Mortuary, Davenport, was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Aguilera died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at her home.
Maria Garcia was born Dec. 25, 1936, in Davenport, the daughter of Joseph and Manuella (Sanchez) Garcia. She married Peter Aguilera on May 5, 1960, in Chicago. He died Nov. 21, 2010.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Survivors include children, Lisa (Dennis) Kozich, Sweetwater, Tenn., and Peter Jr., and Kayla Aguilera, both of Davenport; sisters, Aurora Vazquez, Mary Vega, Delores Garcia, and Patricia Tashiro, all of Davenport, Louise Maldonaldo, Chicago, and Jessie Ochoa, Buffalo; and brothers, John Garcia and Merle Mendez, both of Davenport, and Lupe Garcia Sr., Buffalo.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Nick; sisters, Esther Martinez, Prudence Ewing, and Romana Casteneda; and a brother, Roy Mendez.
