Services for Richard Wayne Voss, 62, of New Liberty, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Durant. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 20 (today) from 4-7 p.m. at the church. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at the Durant Cemetery. The Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Voss died unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at his home.
Richard Voss was born Aug. 2, 1950, in Davenport, the son of Orven and Harriet (Cromer) Voss. He graduated from Bennett High School in 1968 and from Iowa State University in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. He married Sue Anne Sievers on March 29, 1975.
Mr. Voss farmed in Cedar County for 30 years, retiring in 2002. He was working at Menard’s in Davenport prior to his death.
He was a member of the church, Wilton Masonic Lodge #167 AF & AM, and Purity Chapter #365 OES, Wilton. He was also a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Iowa Quarter Horse Association.
His hobbies were breeding, raising and showing purebred sheep and quarter horses, and his family and watching them show horses.
Memorials may be made to the church or Children’s Therapy Center of the Quad-Cities.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Anna and husband Douglas Dehrkoop, Zearing, Iowa, and Jill Voss and Marc Blieu of Muscatine; brothers, Warren and wife Tricia Voss, Muscatine, and Russell and wife Kathy Voss, Illinois City, Ill.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Glenn and Norma Sievers of Walcott; a sister-in-law, Sally and husband Tom Lilienthal, Wilton; and a brother-in-law, Bryan and wife Lisa Sievers, New Liberty.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
