Funeral services for Marie Brus, 91, formerly of Davenport, were held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at The Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial was in the Blue Grass Cemetery.
Mrs. Brus died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at the East Troy Manor, East Troy, Wis.
Marie McDaniel was born Oct. 27, 1921, in New Madrid, Mo., the daughter of Joshua and Carrie (Pettriess) McDaniel. In 1926 she lost her parents. She was adopted by Johannis and Annie Spickermann in the early 1930s. She married Alvin Schulz on Feb. 4, 1942, in Bennett. They later separated. She married Ed Brus on March 1, 1972, in Durant. He died in 1984. For 22 years she had a loving relationship with Bob Smallwood. He died Dec. 11, 2006.
In earlier years her hobbies were her children, birthday parties, making candy, pulling taffy, making costumes, music and talent shows. Later her hobbies were traveling, camping, bowling, dancing, sewing, and making porcelain dolls.
Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara Ann Bend, Columbus, Mich., and Bonnie Kay Schulz Fagan, East Troy; grandchildren, Richard, Ronald, Amie, and Eve Bend, Michael Fagan, Julie Erkamaa, Tracy LaGrange, and Jeremy Schulz; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Ed, and friend Bob, she was preceded in death by sons, Robert and Ricky Schulz, and brothers, Ollie and Hiram McDaniel.
