Funeral services for Lawrence “Larry” H. Harksen, 87, of Moline, were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.
Mr. Harksen died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Trinity Rock Island.
Larry Harksen was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Durant, the son of Harry and Katherine (Griebel) Harksen. He was a graduate of DeWitt Public High School Class of 1944. He married Marian Sutterman on Feb. 24, 1968, in Bettendorf.
Mr. Harksen served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations.
He had owned and operated Larry’s Standard Service, DeWitt, for many years, and retired from Iowa Illinois Riverside Generating Plant, Riverdale, Iowa, in 1990.
Mr. Harksen was active in the DeWitt Jaycees and Moline American Legion.
His hobbies were playing over 50 slow pitch softball.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Katherine (Dan) Hoeper, Blue Grass, Nancy (Dan) Wilson, Alexander, Ark., and Patricia (Carl) Colson, Davenport; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Buss, Paso Robles, Calif; and a brother, Wayne (Margaret), Follets, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by a brother, LaVern.
