Obituary: Antoinette Griffin

Antoinette Mary Griffin passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Ridgecrest Retirement Village after an extended illness. Celebration of Life services and Mass of Christian Burial will be recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 (today) at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, 28200 226th Place, LeClaire, Iowa. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Davenport.

In honor of Toni’s love for animals, memorials can be made to the Clinton County Humane Society and Scott County Humane Society.

Antoinette Mary Chernetsky was born March 31, 1943, in Kingston, Pa., to Anthony J. and Sophia M. Chernetsky. She married Thomas J. Griffin on April 27, 1961. Settling in Princeton, Iowa, Toni raised nine children with her husband, Tom. Toni pursued her nursing degree after her youngest child attained school age. She spent several years providing nursing care at Ridgecrest Retirement Village, Riverview Manor, St. Luke’s Hospital and Manor Care.

Toni was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Anthony and Sophia Chernetsky; and son-in-law, Nick Reed.

Toni is survived by 15 children: Darlene Reed, Iowa City, Diane and Chuck Seitz, Princeton, Iowa, Donna Said, Park View, Tom and Amy Griffin, LeClaire, Tim and Tammy Griffin, Sherrard, Ill., Denise and Robert Olson, Grand Mound, Iowa, Danielle Christiansen, Eldridge, Dawnita and Jim Neff, Davenport, and T.J. and Mimzi Griffin, Bettendorf; 22 grandchildren, Rachel, Terynn, Mackenzie, Griffin, Stephanie, Christopher, Nichoel, Courtney, Derrick, Katie, Thomas, Anna, Brandon, Drake, Brendan, Anthony, Jesseca, Mary, Bryce, Michael, Clayton and Mia; two great-grandchildren, Reed and Daiton; brother, Jim (Jonelle) Chernetsky, Evansville, Ind., and sister, Marilyn Chernetsky, Davenport.

A very heartfelt thank-you goes out to our extended family at Ridgecrest.  Mom loved you all and we are very grateful for the love and care Mom received from all of you for so many years.  Also, to Dr. Mary Campbell (the boss), another heartfelt thank-you. You have been with us for a long time now.
