Funeral services for Wayne R. Harmsen, 58, of Davenport, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at The Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial was at the Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Harmsen died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Manor Care, Davenport, after an extended illness.
Wayne Harmsen was born Aug. 25, 1954, in Davenport, the son of Elwood and Marlene (Puck) Harmsen. He was raised on a farm south of Walcott. He graduated from Davenport West High School in 1973.
Mr. Harmsen worked as a carpenter for Herculean Homes. He later worked for Liquid Grow in Durant, and as a farm hand for several area dairy farmers.
His hobbies were farm life, showing livestock at the fair as a Blue Grass 4-H member, Chicago Cubs, and spending time with his family.
Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Handicapped Development Center, or a favorite charity.
Survivors include his mother, Marlene Harmsen; sisters, Mary (Tom) Burmeister and Rita (Ron) Fick; and brothers, David (Monica), and James (LouAnn).
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
