Funeral services for Ruth Elizabeth Reece, 94, of Blue Grass, formerly of Ottumwa and Fremont, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31 at Reece Funeral Home, Ottumwa, with the Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Burial was in the Ottumwa Cemetery.
Mrs. Reece died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.
Ruth Bragg was born July 24, 1918, in Schuyler County, Mo., the daughter of Pearl and Lourenda (Casady) Bragg. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1936. She married William Reece on Oct. 12, 1943, in Washington, D.C. He died May 6, 1997.
Mrs. Reece was associated with her husband in funeral service for 22 years at the Fremont Funeral Chapel, retiring in 1984. She and her husband owned and operated Ottumwa Trailer Sales for 25 years.
Mrs. Reece was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Girls Club, Order of Eastern Star Rose Chapter 552, and Wapello County Historical Society. She had served on the board of Fremont Leisure Living for many years.
Mrs. Reece had lived with her daughter in Blue Grass for the past six years.
Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include children, Susan (Art) Moore, Pompano Beach, Fla., Will (Karen), Ottumwa, and Kathy (Mike) Lake, Blue Grass; grandchildren Lourenda Block, Sally (Glen) Johnson, Bill (Lisa) Reece, Liz (Derek) Wilson, Ann Marie Reece, and Carol (Mike) Ludeking; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Wolfgang Block, and a brother, Charles Bragg.
