Funeral services for Robert Francis Dasso, 93, of Dubuque, formerly of Rock Island, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10 at the Church of the Nativity, Dubuque. Burial was in the Rock Island National Cemetery. The Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, Dubuque, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dasso died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at his home.
Robert Dasso was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Greenwood, Wis., the son of Henry and Frances (Schweickert) Dasso. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1939, and the University of Illinois in 1948 with a degree in agricultural economics.
Mr. Dasso served in the Army Air Force during World War II and received many decorations.
He married Betty Carlsen of New Liberty, Iowa, on Oct. 14, 1950, at the Holy Name Cataholic Church, Davenport. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Dasso was engaged in farming and gardening in Rock Island. After retiring he collected tolls on the Centennial Bridge until 1989.
He was a member of the church, and active with the Power of Prayer, Legion of Mary, and Dubuque Rescue Mission.
His hobbies were gardening and reading.
A Robert Dasso memorial fund has been established.
Survivors include children, Michael (Mary), Dubuque, David (Cindy), Littleton, Colo., Ann Scott, Park View, Doug (Karen), Parker, Colo., and Denise Dasso, Bloomington, Ill.; grandchildren, Ryan and Eric (Jackie) Dasso, Jenny Dasso, Doug (Heather) Scott, Katie Scott, and Michael and Amber Dasso; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Bea (Bob) Schwab, and Lou (John) Mather; and brothers, Vince, Ray, Jereome, and Leo (Pat).
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Dasso DVM; a sister, Elizabeth Dasso; and brothers, Carl and Eugene.
