A Service of Christian Burial for Richard Bennett Bowman, 83, of DeWitt, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Chris Minor-Heilig officiating. Interment was at the Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
Mr. Bowman died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at his home.
Richard Bowman was born Nov. 1, 1929, at Emeline, Iowa, the son of Edelman and Zelda (Rorah) Bowman. He graduated from Davenport Central High School. He married Arlyn Dodge on May 16, 1953, at First Presbyterian Church, Lexington, Neb.
Mr. Bowman served in the Navy from 1949-1953.
He was employed by Oscar Mayer and Dubuque Packing as a livestock buyer for over 30 years, and at Farm Service of DeWitt until retirement in 2008. He had also farmed with his dad for many years in the DeWitt area.
Mr. Bowman was a member of the church.
His hobbies were spending time with his family.
Memorials may be made to the church or Genesis Hospice.
Survivors include his wife; children, Tyra and Terry Miller, Lynn Center, Ill., Don and Jane Bowman, Delmar, and Richard and Cindy Bowman, McCausland; a son-in-law, Chris Thoma, Durant; grandchildren, Cassandra (Scott) VanHoutte, Monica Anderson, Brandon Anderson, Scott (Kara) Thoma, Elizabeth (Sarah) Thoma, Linissa Bowman, Lara (Curt) Buckles, Liana Bowman, Michael (Holly) Bowman, Judd Bowman, and Andrew Bowman; step-grandsons, James (Tracy) Miller, and Andrew Miller; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Barbara Elmegreen, Eldridge, Lowell Bowman, Sun City West, Ariz., Robert (Sylvia) Bowman, Waverly, and Mary Jo (Phil) Brooks, Yuba City, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Janet Bowman, Eldridge.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Thoma; sisters, Bernadine Rasche and Betty Beck; and a brother, Ronald.
