Obituary: Mary Janeen Morehead

A Service of Christian Burial for Mary Janeen Morehead, 61, of Calamus, was held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Calamus, with the Rev. Sarah Kretzmann officiating. Pallbearers were John and Brandon Green, Kane, Nate and Pat Grau, and Delbert, Jim, Mike and Austin DeMoss. Burial was in the Kvindherred Cemetery, rural Calamus. The Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Morehead died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport.

Mary DeMoss was born Aug. 2, 1951, in Maquoketa, the daughter of Dillon and Mildred (Ihrig) DeMoss. She graduated from Andrew Community High School in 1969. She married William Morehead on July 20, 1969, at Salem Lutheran Church, Andrew.

Mrs. Morehead was a homemaker for many years prior to working as a baker and waitress at I-80 Truckstop. She also worked as a shift supervisor at Hancock Fabrics, and owned her own business, Mary’s Creations.

She was a member of the church.

Her hobbies were spending time with her family, playing cards, cooking, baking, sewing, and selling her crafts.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Jeffrey (Ruby), Williamsburg, and Joseph and Christopher, both of Dixon; granddaughters, Kathryn and Caroline Morehead, and Elizabeth Goddard; a sister, Bonnie (Ken) Grau, Maquoketa; and brothers, Fred (Iola) DeMoss, Yucca, Ariz., Ken (Carolyn) DeMoss, Charlotte, and Bernie (Chris) DeMoss, Calamus.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Janeen.
