Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mark Curran, 38, of Davenport, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 422 E. 10th St., Davenport. The family greeted friends at an open visitation Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, from 2-5 p.m. at the Halligan – McCabe – DeVries – Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport. There was a prayer service at 2 p.m. to begin the visitation. Cremation rites were accorded following the funeral service.
Mark died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in Davenport.
Mark Thomas Curran was born Sept. 16, 1974, in Davenport, a son of John Matthew and Mary Angeline “Angie” (More) Curran. After graduating from North Scott High School class of 1993, Mark attended the University of Iowa.
Mark worked for over 17 years as General Manager at Astra (Bi-State) Furniture, Davenport. His responsibilities expanded to include the support and management of multiple locations in Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska.
Mark was a big personality, generating laughter and bringing smiles to anyone around him. He was known as a true friend, always there to help.
Mark’s greatest joy in life was his son, Alec. He was a proud father. He cherished participating in all Alec’s sports and activities.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alec M. Curran Education Fund.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Alec, Clinton; his mother, Angie (Randy) Kicksey, Davenport; his father, Dr. John Curran, Minneapolis; his sister, Amanda Marie Curran, Davenport; his brother, Matthew More Curran, Denver; his grandmother, Rosemary More, Davenport; his nephews, Jason and Cory Shounick; Alec’s mother, Michelle (Gertson) Curran, Clinton; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Maynard More; Jack and Lucille Curran.
