Obituary: Herbert Lohman

Services for Herbert Sherman Lohman, 97, of Hillsdale, Ill., were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church, Hillsdale. Burial was in the Mount Maria Cemetery, Hillsdale. The Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Erie, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lohman died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo.

Herbert Lohman was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Dodge Center, Minn., the son of Herman and Esther (Loughin) Lohman. He attended the one-room Enterprise School and high school in Hillsale and took post-graduate classes in agriculture at Geneseo High School, graduating in 1933. He married Mary Jane Atwood on Aug. 11, 1940, in Geneseo. She died Jan. 20, 1990.

Mr. Lohman had been a farmer.

He was a former school board member of the Enterprise School. He held memberships in the Hillsdale United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men, Farm Bureau, Erie Masonic Lodge #667, many antique auto clubs, and had been a founder of the Mississippi Valley Antique Auto Club of the Quad Cities.

His hobbies were collecting, restoring and showing antique Fords, fishing in Minnesota, and traveling.

Memorials may be made to the church or Hillcrest Home.

Survivors include sons, Ronald (Pamela), Erie, Richard (Mary), Eldridge, and David, Hillsdale; former daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Lohman, East Moline; son-in-law, Michael Christiansen, Racine, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl Christiansen, and a granddaughter, Jana Kay Lohman.
