George H. Beck, 85, of Bettendorf, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Trinity, Bettendorf. There were no services or visitation. Online condolences may be made at www.McGinnis-Chambers.com
George Beck was born April 17, 1927, in Utica, N.Y., the son of Joseph and Myrtle Beck. He married Vivian Day on Sept. 24, 1949, in Utica.
Mr. Beck served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He had been employed with the New York Central Railroad and spent 32 in civil service. He was retired from the Rock Island Arsenal.
Following his retirement he and Jean moved to Florida, where he participated in senior softball and enjoyed fishing. In 2009, they moved back to Iowa to be closer to family.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Tom (Lory), Bettendorf, and Greg, LeClaire, and grandchildren, Megan (Tim) VanWychen, and Gary and Ashley Beck.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary.
