Obituary: Allen Fick

Allen Fick

Services for Allen E. Fick, 65, of Walcott, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, with Pastor Nick Needham officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16 (today) at the Bentley Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Brian and Brent Fick, Denny Heiar, Ron Hopphan, Les Sibke, and Vinton Cromer. Interment will be in the Walcott Cemetery.

Mr. Fick died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Allen Fick was born March 6, 1947, in Davenport, the son of Robert and Lillian (Untiedt) Fick. He graduated from Davenport West High School in 1965. He graduated from Muscatine Community College and received his bachelor of arts degree in education and master’s degree in guidance counseling and administration from Northeast Missouri State.

Mr. Fick was a guidance counselor, middle school science and math teacher, and TAG advisor at Durant Community School, retiring in 2002. He coached football, basketball, and track and field.

He was a member of the Scott County I-Club, the University of Iowa President’s Club, and Walcott Community Club, and a social member of the Walcott American Legion.

His hobbies were attending Iowa Hawkeyes sporting events, collecting Iowa Hawkeye memorabilia, golfing, playing cards, visiting casinos, and socializing with friends.

Memorials may be made to the Durant Firefighters or the Walcott Fire Department.

Survivors include his mother, Lillian Fick, Walcott; longtime companion, Sally Bruce, Blue Grass; sisters, Beverly and husband Jim Latorraca, Eagan, Minn., and Debra Fick, Urbandale; brothers, Stan and wife Mary, Coal Valley, Ill., Gaylen, Walcott, and Ron and wife Rita, Durant; a niece, Whitney (LeMuel) Collins; and nephews, Brian and Brent Fick.

He was preceded in death by his father.
