A funeral service for Walter Hoag, 80, of Muscatine, was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 at the Bloomington-Muscatine Friends Church, with the Rev. Jerry Phillips officiating. Pallbearers were Scott Hoag, Steve Hoag Jr., Brad Spray, Kenny Jay, Travis, Brock, Cody, Tyler and Ryan Hoag, and Joe and Jim Betts. Burial was in the Bloomington-Muscatine Friends Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hoag died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport.
Walter Hoag was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Lockwood, Mo., the son of Paul and Freda (Zimmerman) Hoag. He married Joyce Fisher on May 28, 1976, in Muscatine.
Mr. Hoag was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was in the reserves for 12 years.
He farmed of all his life, and after retiring from farming he worked as a security guard for Grain Processing Corporation. He had also worked as an orderly for Muscatine General Hospital.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Jill and husband Brian Jay, Davenport, and Jane and husband David Spray, Bettendorf; sons, Keith and wife Judy, Gonzales, La., Dale and wife Joyce, Muscatine, Steve and wife Debbie, Illinois City, Ill., Kevin and wife Jean, Mechanicsville, and Dean and wife Kari, Manheim, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a twin brother, Ralph and wife Shirley, Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Jr.
