Obituary: Ted Choate Jr.

A funeral Mass for Edwin “Ted” Choate Jr., 80, of LeClaire, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, LeClaire. Burial was in the Rock Island National Cemetery. The McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Choate died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in Rock Island.

Edwin James “Ted” Choate Jr. was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Edwin and Ruth (Sharky) Choate. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in pharmacy. He married Lois Pin.

Mr. Choate had served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Cuba.

Mr. Choate had worked as a pharmacist for over 50 years and was president of Mays Drug, Inc.

He was a member of the church.

His hobbies were hunting and fishing, and working the pharmacy on medical missionary trips to Haiti and Peru.

Memorials may be made to the church or Serve Haiti.

Survivors include his wife; children, Edwin (Jean), LeClaire, Kent (Beth), Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Cheryl), Norway, Iowa, Steven (Jeannette), Menominee Falls, Wis., and James (Vickie), Swisher; grandchildren, Tyler, Andy, Ben, Katie, Troy, Kyle, Dan, Ryan, Michelle, Conner and Elle; a great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Sonya Pin.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, and a brother, Ralph.
