John Harris, 91, of Davenport, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at The Kahl Home, Davenport. A private memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport. Burial was in the Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, assisted with the arrangements.
John Harris was born March 31, 1921, in Detroit, Mich., the son of John and Mary (Garber) Harris. He graduated from Riverside High School in Riverside, Ill., and attended the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He married Jean Lipsey in 1940. She died in 1952. He married Joyce Lorenzen in 1956. She died in 1999.
Mr. Harris served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean conflict.
He worked for International Harvester for 41 years, retiring in 1982.
His hobbies were spending time with his family, boating on the Mississippi River, hiking, camping, golfing and wintering in Florida.
Survivors include daughters, Kathlyn Hurning, Bettendorf, Ann (Mel) Peterson, Cincinatti, Ohio, and Patricia Harris, Davenport; a son, Mark (Mitzi), Blue Grass; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen (Glenn) Iossi, Toledo, Ohio.
