A service to celebrate the life of Elaine “Rose” Oles, 80, of Bettendorf, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Asbury United Methodist Church, Bettendorf. Private committal services were held at the Rock Island National Cemetery. The McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Oles died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Trinity Rock Island.
Rose Rosene was born Jan. 7, 1932, in Rowley, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Hulda (Thedens) Rosene. She was a 1953 graduate of Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. She married Raymond Oles in Rowley on June 12, 1954. He died Jan. 20, 1982.
Mrs. Oles taught piano for over 50 years. She had also served as an accompanist at the Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley high schools.
She was a member of the church, sang in the choir and performed in the bell choir for many years. She was a member of P.E.O Chapter GW, Original Music Students Club, Federated Teachers Association, Quad-City Music Teachers Association, and a 40-year member of the Handel Oratorio Society. She also volunteered for many years for the Quad-City Symphony and the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament.
Her hobbies were music, golfing, playing bridge, and needlepoint.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura (Lee) Strub, New Brighton, Minn.; sons, Lt. Col. (retired) Gary (Debra), Jacksonville, N.C., and Mark (Amy), Francestown, N.H.; grandchildren, Brandon and Courtney Strub, Ashley Oles, Zachary (Kaitlyn) Oles and Elizabeth Oles; and brothers, Norman (Shirley) Rosene, Rowley, and L. Benjamin (Jan) Rosene, Bloomington, Minn.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara Oles, and a sister, Vanda Hanna.
