Lorna Hirl, age 85, of Davenport, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Grand Haven in Eldridge. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 6021 Northwest Blvd., in Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. The family greeted friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge in Davenport.

Lorna was born in 1927 in Lotts Creek, Iowa, to Otto and Alma Ruhnke. She attended Lutheran Parochial Schools for eight years before graduating from Algona High School. On Oct. 7, 1949, Lorna was united in marriage to Neil Hirl in Lotts Creek. The couple moved to Davenport where Lorna worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several years. In 1976 Neil and Lorna started Hawkeye Flooring Company.
Lorna had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years until becoming a charter member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church. She was very active in church organizations, taught Sunday School, and attended Bible study groups.
She enjoyed music, watching Iowa basketball, playing cards with her friends, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Phil) Harris of Madison, Wis.; sons, Craig (Jayne) Hirl of Eldridge, and Brian (Dianne) Hirl of Davenport; grandchildren, Seth (Kate) Harris, Travis (Alissa) Hirl, Lisa (Jake) Cline, Jenny (Zach) Grassle, Laura Hirl, and Grace Hirl; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Ruhnke of Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil, in 1994, and brothers, Alvin, Elmer, and Wilbert Ruhnke.
